Martin Winkelbauer graduated in Mechanical Engineering at the Vienna Technical University in 1991. He joined KFV, the Austrian Road Safety Board, in 1993. In these more than 30 years, he performed research on various topics: driver education, testing and licensing, vehicle safety, infrastructure safety, cargo securing on trucks, child seats, driver assistance systems, efficiency assessment of road safety measures, etc. Motorcycle safety was a focus continuously, starting with research on ABS system, designing a test for moped riders and recently, implementing nudging elements for rider safety on rural roads. Since 2008, he also works as a sworn expert witness for accident reconstruction.
